Philosophy of Treatment
I incorporate 25 years of clinical experience along with advanced orthopedic and medical massage training to maximize outcomes. Your pain has a story and is part of your health history I gather during intake. Along with your health history I will often inquire further about what you feel, how you move or don’t move, what you would like to be doing and how we’ll get you there. Range of motion testing, special orthopedic tests, palpation and inquiry help me make the best assessment before we ever get started on the massage table. This time is valuable and necessary to create effective treatment time.
I use a wide variety of techniques as I work with you. Some of these might involve myofascial release, pin and stretch and active engagement techniques and various massage strokes. If you have an acute injury or are post operative then I will employ manual lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling and inflammation.
It all depends what your situation is and what is appropriate. I rely on current research, advanced trainings and the expertise of other health care providers that are working with you to be part of your team to get you to the best feeling version of you; regardless of age, regardless of body type, regardless of your past. Our goal is to move forward, both literally and figuratively.
This client came to me with a problematic total knee replacement, walking into my office for the first time on two crutches. Over time we moved from treatment table to a combination of treatment table, mirror therapy and treadmill with other strategies to have him walking with an improved gait.
