First Visit and FAQ

Thank you for your interest in massage and choosing Raining Faith Massage for your massage therapy. Following is an introduction to Raining Faith Massage and answers to some questions that you may have. Included are the guidelines and policies. Please review them prior to your appointment. I look forward to meeting and working with you!

What to expect from your session – I am of the opinion that the best results from massage therapy occur when you and I work together. Together we will work to achieve results from goals that you have expressed to me before the session. At your first appointment I will obtain a health history and discuss the way you would like the session to progress. There is no extra charge for this initial consultation. The health history form and policies letter can be downloaded off my web site. Filling them out prior to your appointment would be great! Please allow yourself ample time to fill out the health history form, as it is pertinent that I have a thorough history for my records.

The kind of massage that I offer – My style of massage is a combination of Swedish massage and treatment oriented bodywork. I work with an emphasis toward treating injuries and/or postural dysfunction utilizing myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and facilitated stretching. I incorporate Swedish massage into these techniques to create an effective yet relaxing style of work. If you desire a relaxing, stress reducing massage, I can create a session that is comprised primarily of Swedish applications.

Review of your medical history – In order to provide effective treatment, it will be necessary for you to provide me with certain information on your medical history.  To facilitate that, I have developed a medical history form that I ask all clients to fill out prior to their first visit.  In order to make this more convenient for you, this form can be downloaded from the website and printed on your printer so that you might be able to fill the form out at your leisure and bring it with you to your first visit.   You can download the form by clicking HERE

A little bit about myself and my training –  I graduated from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy in December of 2001.  My education has consisted of over 1300 hours of supervised training. The areas of massage that I specialize in include Sports Massage, Orthopedic Massage and Swedish Massage. Additionally, I have been nationally certified and a member of the American Massage Therapy Association. I have lived in Broomfield since 1991 and am an active member of the community. I have a wife, Pamela, whom I married in 1991, and son Benjamin who we were blessed with in 1995.

Some of the benefits that you can expect from your massage  Massage is more than just a “feel good” experience and a way to treat yourself.  On a physiological level it helps to improve circulation throughout the entire body, including the venous, arterial, and lymphatic systems. Massage helps to alleviate tension in muscles and return them to their normal length and condition. Increased muscle tension can lead to a variety of problems. Some of these may include headaches, nerve compression syndromes such as Carpal Tunnel and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, and postural problems that can lead to chronic pain, such as lower back pain. Additionally, massage helps to relieve stress and can make you more aware of your breathing and how it affects the rest of your body.

About my office and facility –  My office is located within my home. There is parking available on the street in front of the house. I ask that you please park in the street and not in my driveway. The room that I work out of is private and has a bathroom adjacent to it. During sessions I normally play music but I can work without it if you prefer. You are always welcome to use the music of your choice for your session. I strive to keep the setting of the massage in an environment that is comfortable for you and have a heater and fan to help adjust the temperature of the room. The massage table has an adjustable heated pad as well for your comfort.

How the session will progress  After the initial consultation and we set some goals, we will be ready for your massage. After showing you to the treatment room I will leave and allow you to undress in privacy. Please undress to your level of comfort and remove all of your jewelry, (wedding bands are okay) It is a good idea to use the restroom before the session starts. As a client you will be covered with a sheet or “draped” during the session. Only the body part being massaged is exposed while I work. Please place yourself between the sheets and cover yourself with the top sheet after getting on the table. I will always knock before re-entering the room. Sessions tend to be best when you and I work together.  Please let me know if there is any part of the body you are uncomfortable having massaged, or if there are any concerns that you may have either before or during the massage.

I will check in with you during the session as to how the pressure of my work is and as to your comfort. Remember that massage should not be painful. If you find yourself holding your breath or curling your fingers or toes this is an indication that the work may be too deep. Be aware of a therapeutic feeling, as opposed to work that is painful. Bodywork can bring about many emotional as well as physical changes. If you need me to slow down or stop the session for any reason, please feel free to do so and we can discuss how the session should proceed.

What happens when the session is over-  Therapeutic massage is wonderful work that can leave a person feeling very different after the session as opposed to before. When the session is over I will leave the room and allow you a few minutes to collect your thoughts and absorb the experience. After you have dressed you will come back into the reception area to meet with me privately. At that time we can discuss the session and / or make another appointment.

After you leave the session, your body may have some different occurrences.  Massage can stimulate the body’s different systems and is a natural cleansing process. Frequent urination, gas or mild loose stools are not out of the ordinary. It is a good idea to stay hydrated and refrain from any strenuous activity for the remainder of the day. Remember to pay attention to how you feel in subsequent days and please feel free to give me a call in the days following your session if you have any concerns at all.

I want to thank you for your interest and hope that your session is an enjoyable experience for you. If you have any questions or concerns at all please call me prior to your appointment. I look forward to meeting and working with you.
